Growing up, the only financial advice I received from my parents was “don’t make the same mistakes we did.” There wasn’t really much of an explanation about what the mistakes were, or any instruction on how to handle money wisely, but somehow I understood and took this advice to heart.
As a result, since my teenage years, I have devoted myself to learning as much as I can about financial literacy, wealth creation, and generosity, and I have shared what I have learned with others along the way. I have made some really good financial decisions - like buying my first home at the age of 23 - and some really bad ones - like only having a few hundred dollars in savings when I bought that house. Despite the ups and downs in my financial journey, today I am consumer debt free with a fully funded emergency fund, a business owner, and a 'soon to be' owner of a second house.
I am passionate about helping women and people of color learn financial literacy and how to build wealth, primarily through homeownership. I currently serve on the board of Freshly Minted Finance, a non-profit organization that equips recent Black college graduates with knowledge, capability, and confidence to manage their personal finances. Additionally, I share at group workshops and often provide one-on-one mentorship on the topics of personal finance and homeownership.
I am not a certified financial coach. However, I have learned many valuable financial lessons throughout the years, and I love sharing what I know with others. Feel free to contact me if you would like to learn more for yourself or a group.
